There’s one truth I’ve learned that’s proved itself time and time again:
people are selfish. They will always put their own desires first. Occasionally people end up desiring the same thing, and it turns out okay for them. But what’s left in their wake are broken people, crushed hearts, and empty promises. For two people to fall in love, is it worth the pain they caused others? I’ve been taught to say “yes” but I can’t help but think love, true love shouldn’t be limited to one person. To truly love is to tend all relationships well. To be honest. And that’s why it’s so difficult to do. Humanity’s inherent selfishness causes them to prioritize people based on their own desires. I do it too. I’m just as guilty, but maybe I can change. I need to stop thinking about my own desire to fall in love and, as Voltaire wrote, simply tend my garden.
